We have a large number of children within the setting, who have English as an additional language.
We use lots of differnet techniques to help support these children, to both aid their communication (making sure they are happy and confident in the setting), and to develop their English skills.
Strategies used to support EAL include:
- using pictures/photographs
- communication keyring
- displaying children's home languages around the setting
- using children's home languages with other children (e.g. practicing counting in different languages)
- stories and books in children's home languages
- small group activies that encourage speech and language skills
